FIFA has announced that Monday 11 January 2016, will be the day the best player in the world for 2015 will be awarded the prestigious FIFA Ballon D’or award in a ceremony in Zurich.

The award is intended to be given to the best player in the world for January 2015 – December 2015. Its a calendar year award not a seasonal award.
The best male footballer wull be awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or, while the best player in women’s football will be honoured with the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year trophy.
The scorer of the best goal of the year as voted for by football fans via FIFA.com will be given the FIFA Puskas award. An organisation, team or individual that has inspired others with a special gesture of sportsmanship in football will take home the FIFA Fair Play award.
The FIFA FIFPro World XI of best players for the past year and the FIFA Presidential Award will be given that night.
The current holder of the FIFA Ballon D’or is Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo who beat off competition from Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer.
The front runners for the award are believed to be Messi, Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, Thomas Muller, Neymar Jnr., Paul Pogba and Eden Hazard. Lionel Messi has however been tipped to win the award after leading Barcelona to a treble and Argentina to the Copa America final.
